A baby’s brain is growing fast, developing in response to their surroundings through the senses of touch, smell, taste, hearing, sight and movement. Our Little Treasure Classes offer a collection of everyday objects chosen to stimulate the different senses for all children from the age of 6 months up to pre-school age. They will provide invaluable tools for laying down the foundations for future learning in all children.The classes create a calm and secure environment for parents to gain insights into the potential of their child, as well as forums for sharing experiences. The two trained members of staff are present to share their valuable knowledge, to make it productive times for parent and child alike.
Quiet music and essential oils promote a sense of purpose, to which the children and adults both respond. Curiosity encourages confidence and exploration promoting your child’s physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development, fostering their independence and having fun.
It is our aim to support the parent in their knowledge of child development and to foster an enthusiasm for investigative learning in the child, stimulated by the wealth of beautiful natural resources.
It is one way of giving babies a wide range of experiences that help the brain to make connections and develop. Babies learn by looking, touching, putting in their mouth, picking up and dropping – they have the chance to explore and decide for themselves what they are interested in. Their curiosity about the contents of the Treasure Baskets means that they will often concentrate for longer periods of time. From age 12-18 months children are beginning to move around and question what things are for and how to use them. Our Heuristic Play Classes build on their experiences and offer the opportunity to explore in new dimensions. The next class allows children to refine their senses and take control of their fine and gross motor skills. These classes have proven extremely supportive in the transition to Nursery life as many of the materials are the same as those we play with in Wivenhoe Montessori along with familiar faces as staff work accross both sites.
